Hey guys! Just a few questions about the DWE systems.
We recently bought some cameras and a 7-port multiplexer, hoping to easily install this onto our custom built BlueROV. We found that our shipment didn´t include the fancy 90 degree usb-c cable that @Joseph_Ho shows off in his hardware installation guide. We also felt like some stand-offs and screws would be nice. The cable to the camera also came without a connector for the wiring-end.
Now, I know that all of these comments sound like whining, because no “missing part” is special. Of course we will be able to find the things we need to make the hardware fit, but it takes time and effort. I bet your average customer would gladly pay a few extra bucks for the package to contain everything they needed.
We also had some trouble starting the system up. First of all we were not able to run the Discovery software meant for M-series (Mac). Download was successful but it said the file was damaged or broken every time we tried running it. Even when we tried to override security settings. Ended up using the Intel version, but I´m guessing it will not be as powerful as the M-series? Could you give me some advice around this? Using a brand new MacBook Pro (M3-chip).
Also tried flashing some SD-cards. Now my raspberry pi won´t fully boot. I tried following the log with an extra monitor, but was not able to translate where it stops. I was not able to ping it on the local wifi, any tips on what to do here? Tried flashing multiple cards multiple times.
Additional question; Can we run the multiplexer from a usb-c if we connect a maximum of 3 cameras? Or do we have to add a “second power source” from any 5V supply.
Anyways, lots of cool products around here! I´m glad you’re on the market!
In regards to your comments on the product contents, you can see our “Contents” tab on our product page which list what our products come with. If there is ever any discrepancy between what is listed on our site and what you receive, please email support and we will help resolve the situation right away!
If you would like for any additional items to be included with your order, please email our team at sales@dwe.ai.
For your issue with the MacOS M-Series Download, we will look into this matter right away and figure out a resolution. We will hopefully try to provide an update shortly.
For the SD card issue, could you please provide us with the model of your raspberry pi and what image you are trying to flash? Have you tried following this guide we provide on our documentation site?
Mutliplexer: Thank you for bringing this to our attention, we will update our docs site shortly. The quick answer is, you can power up to 3 cameras without an external power source (just ensure the jumper pin is connected). To power more than 3 cameras, you will need to disconnect the jumper and provide an external 5 volt supply using the power input connector.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
This error happens when your Raspberry Pi does not have an active internet connection and/or when multiple network connections are present (i.e. connecting over Ethernet and WiFi).
I may sound like a really unlikable person to pick this back up, but I sort of have to. As a Norwegian I really appreciate receiving stuff from overseas. Usually everything is super user-friendly and if you need to buy something else to use what you’re originally buying, the seller usually tells you. Again this is not to criticise, but I believe it would be an upgrade for your store and brand if you would go the extra mile to make the buyers experience as smooth as possible. Even if it would make the products themselves a bit more expensive.
Especially things like this.
The stand-offs needed to perfectly fit the Multiplexer on the Fathom-X interface. Showing a picture of how it CAN look in the product-description and not including it in the product(not even in the accessories tab??) just doesn’t boost the users experience(imo). If it costs you greatly to deliver two types of stand-offs with every Multiplexer, maybe make it an option when adding it to your cart? Or just add one of those cool information boxes, stating that you are not supplying these? It seems a bit lazy to “hide it” in the contents tab.
Never mind my quote about the SD-cards, I think this was solely a lack of understanding on my side. The guide for flashing ones SD-card is great.
The firmware loading. It says only available on Windows 10+. We currently don´t possess any W10+ computers, will this be available for Mac anytime soon? If not, do you think running the cameras without updating the firmware (for now) will cause problems? They are brand new so I would be surprised if there was a new update ready for them now. But I have been proven wrong before!
I´ll try again with only one internet connection. You are of course right, there were two live at the time of testing. Is there anywhere I would find a list or a page about how to read these kind of error codes? Or it that stuff you just learn along the way?
Really felt like I put an effort in today, but I’ve not been successful downloading the DWE os. Keeps showing the «failure resolving raspbian.raspberry.org». Any tips on how to solve this?
Another question about this. I want to run BlueOS and DWE simultaneously. In an e-mail we got the response that we will have to SSH and install DWE that way. Now I know there is a guide under “docs”, but it doesn´t say anything about the Pi beforehand. Does it need to be flashed with your image before SSH-ing? Or the opposite? All of my unsuccessful tries have been based on the image you provide under “docs”.
